In these uncertain economic times, it can be difficult to find a way to balance your family budget while still taking care of your pets. While we understand that your family’s necessities must come first, it is also important to remember your pets and their needs. As they say, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!

Heartworm and flea prevention continue to be necessary for your pets, especially in dogs. Depending on the size of your dog, heartworm prevention may be as cheap as $4 per month. Compare this to treating a dog that is already infection with heartworms – an average cost of $750 - $1,000!

In addition, flea prevention averages $10 per month. Compare this to the cost of an office visit, flea medicine and the possible need for antibiotics and steroids to treat a flea infested dog.

We also carry products that prevent both heartworms and fleas at the same time. These may be as cheap as $12 per month and depending on the size of your pet, may be significantly more cost effective for you.

While they may seem like unnecessary expenses in these tough times, please remember that your pets need basic care just as the rest of your family does. Your vet is always willing to discuss your concerns to help make a plan that will work for both your budget and your pet.
