Comfortis is a new oral flea preventative for dogs.  For owners who dislike using topical flea preventatives, Comfortis is a great new option.  The pill is a beef flavored chewable that is tasty to dogs, easy to give, and only requires once a month administration.  Comfortis is very fast acting: it begins killing within 30 minutes of administration, and is 100% active within 4 hours after administration.  The medication stays in the animal’s dermal fat so that any flea that bites will be given the drug and die within 30 minutes.  Due to the quick kill time, Comfortis is beneficial to dogs with severe skin allergies, especially those with flea allergy dermatitis.  Studies have shown that it continues killing fleas within 30 minutes on day 30 after administration.   Ask your veterinarian about this product, as not every dog will be able to take this medication.  For those who prefer topical, we continue to carry Advantage, Advantage Multi, Frontline and Revolution.  The fleas are already building their army, so be sure to start your pets on prevention soon!
